A number of conditions affect the hip in kids
Each condition tends to occur at a certain age (see table)

Age (years)   Hip condition

0 (birth)

Developmental dysplasia of the hip

0-10

Infections:
Irritable hip = commonest
N.B. Septic arthritis also affects hip in kids

5-10

Perthes disease

10-15 (puberty)

Slipped upper femoral epiphysis
