Direct blows and punching injuries are the main causes of metacarpal fractures, with a transverse and spiral fracture pattern being produced respectively.

Clinical Features

Localised pain, swelling and limitation of movements.

Associated Injuries

There may be an accompanying vascular, nerve or tendon injury.
