Calcifiying Tendinitis

Also Known as

  • Calcifying supraspinatus tendinitis.

What is it?

  • A condtion characterised by calcification of the supraspinatus tendon.

Background

  • Involves the deposition of calcium hydroxyapetite crystals in the supraspinatus tendon
  • Occurs 1-2cm proximal to the insertion of the supraspinatus tendon at the greater tuberosity.

Epidemiology

  • Most commonly occurs between the ages of 30-50 years of age
  • Men are more commonly affected than women.
